About the "ACT"
ADA Compliance Team
ACT, or by its official name "ADA Compliance Team," had its beginnings in 2006. ACT owner Ingrid Thomson's vision for the company came during a conversation with a California State licensed general contractor who commented, "ADA compliance is really going to explode in the next few years. As a contractor, I run into it everywhere. I've dealt with it, on and off, for a few years now, but it is really coming to a head now for many businesses."
Ingrid Thomson's background in construction and telecommunications, coupled with her leadership and organizational abilities, led her to pursue ideas around ADA compliance issues. After weeks of due diligence, exhaustive research, and numerous conversations with contractors, consultants, and other business associates, Ingrid began the business known as ACT - ADA Compliance Team. She quickly realized that compliance with the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) was not only mandatory, but being strictly enforced on the Federal and State levels.
To move the company forward, Ms. Thomson engaged the services of professionals from the construction trades, business consultants, suppliers of ADA compliant products and services, and other trusted advisors to formulate the premise of the ACT mission, in her words:
"I want to be an advocate for business owners, building owners, facilities managers, property managers, and everyone else involved in the decision-making process regarding ADA compliance.
My goal is to help people understand there are very few "weasel clauses" when it comes to ADA laws, rules, and regulations. Unlike many other businesses and industries, ADA is very strict. You can't tell the federal (or state) agencies and courts that you are going to get around to it in a few weeks or months. You will likely be sued and, by law, forced to pay. Whether or not this is fair is not up to me, but I urge people to contact ACT - ADA Compliance Team, so we can survey their property and provide them with a list of every area that is or is NOT complaint."
